The Japanese school in Yokohama is located close to the center of Yokohama and just 5 minutes from Yokohama Train Station. The school is staffed by bilingual staff that are there to help your time in Yokohama be as rewarding and enjoyable as possible.
It is an international language school with students from 40 countries learning Japanese. Lessons are taught in Japanese exposing you to the language from day one. The international atmosphere at the school benefits student’s interaction with Japanese language learners from around the world using the Japanese language as the language of communication. This provides a great opportunity not only to meet people from around the world but to practice Japanese everyday.
The school also runs Japanese language teacher training courses and students have the opportunity to meet teachers in training for further language practice.
The school was establish in 1986 to promote the Japanese language to foreigners and is accredited by the Association for the Promotion of Japanese Language Education.
The syllabus is designed with emphasis on building communication skills to teach the necessary language to be able to function in everyday situations in Japan. Lessons are lively and you will be able to learn and practice new language everyday.
A large variety of stimuli is used in class to prompt and simulate everyday situations and interactions. This provides the perfect opportunity to become familiar with and to use the Japanese language in functional settings.
The school has long term courses for students who plan to enter university or graduate school in Japan and has a 100% success record in students enrolling at university or college.
This course is for people who wish to acquire useful Japanese in a relatively short period of time. You will learn smooth and natural Japanese focusing especially on speaking and listening. This course is particularly useful for people who wish to experience living in Japan while learning functional Japanese.
Beginner learners can start this course in January, April July and October each year. People who know Japanese up to an elementary level can begin the course any Monday.
Classes are Monday to Friday, 4 lessons daily. Morning classes, from 9:00am – 12:15pm, are for intermediate and advanced students. Afternoon classes, from 1:30pm – 4:45pm are for beginners. A level check is taken on the 1st day of class and you will be assigned to a group corresponding to your level.
You will be given light homework everyday and each Friday there is a test on what has been studied Monday to Thursday. At the end of each term there is an exam on what has been studied that term. The results of the test confirm your level for the following term.
Activities to stimulate and support the learning process include:
Excursions ( each term there is an excursion where you will experience and learn Japanese culture such as a tea ceremony or making Japanese confectionary)
Presentations (each semester there is a speech contest)
Teaching practice (you will be taught by a teacher in training providing an opportunity to talk to Japanese people besides your teacher)
Free talking (each week the school facilitates a communication exchange between Japanese and foreign students where the language used in Japanese)

The school does not operate its own accommodation but uses the services of several accommodation agencies. We will act as an intermediary and introduce you to our partner agents. There are four types of accommodation (dormitory, guest house, apartment, and homestay).
All accommodation is located at a convenient distance to the school and costs begin at 50,000 Yen per month for short term courses and 35,000 Yen per month for long term courses.
Dormitory- Dormitory warden is present round the clock providing assistance and security.
- Many international students live in the dormitory and you can easily make friends and practice your Japanese.
- The cost of dormitory accommodation is much less than other options.
- This is sharing a house with other people, so not a guest house by western means.
- You will have your own bedroom but will share the living room, kitchen, toilet and bathroom.
- This is a good opportunity to become friends with people from different countries and walks of life.
- You can choose your period of stay on a monthly basis.
- No deposit or key money is required which helps you to cut down your expenses.
- Basic furniture and home electronics are supplied so that you can start a comfortable life immediately.
- You can live with Japanese family in their house for a short period of time (3 months max).
- As a general rule, breakfast and dinner will be served each day, but this is optional.
- Not recommended for smokers or people with allergies.
